Author Jill Hicks to visit Browseabout Aug. 11

Romance series set in Lewes
August 1, 2013

Jill Hicks, a part owner of a Lewes beach house and a frequent visitor to the area, loathed reading for most of her life. In fact, she doesn’t remember completing any of the required high school reading or picking up a novel just for fun.

Fast forward 40 years and everything changed when she found herself enjoying a Nicholas Sparks novel while vacationing on the beaches of the Outer Banks, N.C.

After she had devoured all of Sparks’ novels and not finding anything that quite matched his style, she entertained the possibility of writing her own book. That’s when it happened. She and her husband, Bill, were on vacation at the family beach house in Lewes when the storyline came to her.

“Will Power: A Romance Novel” is the story of three brothers and their connection to a beach house in the quaint shore town of Lewes. The house had been in the family for generations when a beautiful redhead and an unexpected relative entered their lives. Romance and power struggles become a heartbreaking combination, changing family dynamics forever.

Most of the story takes place in Lewes, and Hicks wraps local history and flavor around each of her characters. By the end of the book, readers will expect to run into them around town or on the beach.

Her first novel, “Will Power,” took a full year to write and publish. More than 2,000 copies have been distributed in paperback and via e-readers. Hicks' readers encouraged her to continue the story, wanting to know what happened to this family and their friends.

The sequel, “Will Power II: The Courtship," is now available. Hicks will be at Browseabout Books, 133 Rehoboth Ave., Rehoboth Beach, for a book signing beginning at 10 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 11. Her books are also available at Biblion Books in Lewes and on Amazon.
