Osher Lewes kicks off fall semester at new location with record number of classes
A record number of classes - more than 75 - will help kick off the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Delaware in Lewes’ first full semester in its new, bigger location at the Fred Thomas Building.
“We are thrilled to be able to offer a record number of fantastic classes, including many new topics and instructors and also many returning favorites,” said Anna Moshier, program coordinator. “Our expanded fall curriculum allows us to fully utilize our new expanded classroom space at the Fred Thomas Building.”
After a successful June session in its new home, Osher Lewes is now gearing up for its fall 2013 semester which will run Monday, Sept. 9 to Wednesday, Nov. 20.
The 10-week fall curriculum features an exciting lineup of more than 75 classes for people age 50 and over. There is something for everyone with an array of offerings in subject areas such as literature, art, history, computer, science, philosophy, music, life skills and languages.
Some examples of classes offered this fall include:

• Beginning and Intermediate Computer
• Aspects of Espionage
• Civil War Conversations
• Delaware’s Naval History
• IPhone U Phone
• Simplifying the Complexities of Retirement Planning
• Opera Quartet
• Tolstoy - War and Peace - Art, Music Literature
• Chorus
Registration is under way and is available at lifelonglearning.udel.edu/lewes, by mail or in person at the Osher Lewes office, Fred Thomas Building, 520 DuPont Ave., Lewes DE 19958. The deadline for priority registration for the fall is Thursday, Aug. 22. Registrations received after Aug. 22 will be processed on a space available basis.
In addition to the fall classes, Osher Lewes offers a 10-week spring semester as well as a four-week June session every year. Most classes are held at the new location, Fred Thomas Building, and additionally several are conducted at Cadbury, the Rehoboth Art League and Bethany Beach Municipal Building. More benefits to membership include social activities, travel opportunities and other program special events.
In addition to being 50 years of age or over, the only other requirements for admission to Osher Lewes are an interest in continuing learning, support of the program through participation and a modest membership fee of $130 a semester or $225 for a full year. Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Delaware also has programs in Dover and Wilmington.
