LHS 50th Annual Antiques Show to also feature children's games, museum open houses Aug. 3
The Lewes Historical Society is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its Outdoor Antiques Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 3, at the Lewes Historical Society Complex at the corner of Second and Shipcarpenter streets. General admission is $5, and children under 12 are free. The proceeds benefit the society and are used in educational and preservation programming.
Nearly 60 high-quality dealers participate in the show that features 18th century to early 20th century antiques. All pieces are authentic and represent a wide range of prices. There is something for every taste and every level of collecting sophistication at the show.
"No two antique shows are alike. Our vendors bring their best antiques, so you can take home a real treasure,” says Antiques Show Committee Chair Cindy Foster.
To further recognize the 50th anniversary of the show, the Lewes Historical Society will present several antique children’s games. Children will have the chance to play quoits, a traditional ring-toss game, along with the game of graces, and test their skills in the hoop roll. These games are part of the society’s participation in the national Let’s Move Museums program that encourages families to take part in physical activities at museums and cultural sites.
In addition, the Lewes Historical Society will offer tours of many of the museums in the complex where the show is held. With purchase of the show admission, the public is welcome to explore the Midway School No. 178 (c.1898), Rabbit’s Ferry House (c.1741), Doctor’s Office (c.1850) and Thompson Country Store (c.1800). Each property clearly illustrates the impact of the sea on the community and Lewes’s penchant for moving buildings from site to site, as all of these buildings have been moved from other locations in Lewes or surrounding communities.
Casa Amici will feature a food booth, while Vitelli's Ice Cream and Water Ice will provide refreshing treats. David Zipse will provide the entertainment.
