Delaware Watercolor Society seeks submissions for upcoming show

Biggs Museum to host exhibit beginning Sept. 6
August 5, 2013

The Delaware Watercolor Society, an art organization with more than 120 members from the Cape Region and surrounding states, has announced a call for entries to its upcoming juried exhibition at the Sewell C. Biggs Museum of American Art Museum located in Dover.

The museum houses one of the finest collections of American fine and decorative arts. DWS Oresident Elizabeth Collard says, “This is the fourth juried exhibition for DWS at the Biggs and we’re excited to be featured once again in this fine museum.”  The exhibition will run Friday, Sept. 6, through Oct. 27.

Jean K. Gill, internationally and nationally recognized artist, juror, and educator, will serve as juror and judge for the 2013 DWS Juried Exhibition at the Biggs Museum.   She has received awards for her work in the annual exhibitions of both the American and national watercolor societies.  Gill is a signature member in numerous watercolor societies, as well as a published artist in many books, magazines, and DVDs, including Splash and Artistic Touch.

DWS will present monetary awards and ribbons for first, second and third place.  In addition, at the juror’s discretion, she will select non-monetary merit awards recognizing artistic achievement.

The opening reception will be held at the Museum Sept. 6, from 5 to 7 p.m.  This event is open to the public and light refreshments will be served.

Artists are invited to submit up to two original works that have been created within the past three years in any water-based media, except for water-based oils.  DWS will accept works in transparent acrylic, multi-media works and collage as long as a majority of the work is in water media.  Works may be executed on paper, Yupo, canvas, clayboard or other similar material.  No digital art, digitally enhanced art, or works developed during workshops will be accepted.  All works must be for sale and not previously exhibited in DWS juried shows.  No Giclées or prints are permitted.

Anyone entering must be 18 years or older and reside in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania or New Jersey. Artwork must be delivered by hand to the Biggs Museum Friday, Aug. 23, 1 until 3 p.m.
