August 15, 2013

Max Brotman, 12, of Leesburg, Va., took his passion for music with him as he visited his grandparents in Rehoboth Beach the weekend of July 25.

While on the Boardwalk, Brotman set up his keyboard on Wilmington Avenue and started singing to a small crowd. "He thrives on this," said his mom, Sheryl. "He just loves to perform," she said. With a voice that carried across the boards, Brotman attracted more than 50 people throughout the night, including a returning visitor who had seen him play a couple of nights before.

After just winning a local Battle of the Bands competition with his friends back home, his mother expects he will want to continue studying music as he goes through school.

"He's so different on stage," she said. "He's told me, 'That's the real me on stage, mom."
