Twenty teams representing all reaches of the world were honored Aug. 4 during the opening ceremonies of the 2013 Senior League and Big League World Series tournaments in Roxana.

Lower Sussex Little League has played host to the Senior League World Series since 2004, but now welcomes the Big League tournament as well. Girls will compete in round robin play through Thursday, Aug. 8. The top two teams will advance to the semifinals Friday, Aug. 9, and the winners will face off on national television Saturday, Aug. 10.

Tossing out the ceremonial first pitches were Rep. Ruth Briggs King, R-Georgetown, and Patti Grimes, executive director of the Joshua M. Freeman Foundation.
