Directed by Dot Neumann of Signature Theatre, this production costars North America’s foremost female impersonator, Christopher Peterson as Albin (aka Zaza, the club’s star) and local favorite John Zinzi as Albin’s business and life partner Georges. Georges and Albin have been living together in their own comfortable world, surrounded by the things they love, for many years. Hunter Graves of Rehoboth Beach plays Jacob, the wacky, cross-dressing butler who prefers the title “maid” in this couple’s decidedly quirky household.
The action centers on their notorious St. Tropez nightclub - a place described as “bad and beautiful, it’s bawdy and bizarre!” The lovely Cagelle “girls” are an exotic draw as they delight audiences with their numbers, proclaiming that they are what they are. All goes well until complications arise when their son, Jean-Michel, (portrayed by David Button of Rehoboth Beach) brings his fiancée Anne (Katharine Ariyan of Lewes) and her very conservative parents, the Dindons, home for dinner. Her father’s mission is to take down the club in the name of tradition, family and morality. Hilarious and deeply moving, this is a tuneful and touching tale of one family’s struggle to stay together - stay fabulous - and above all else, stay true to themselves.
Audiences have expressed appreciation for the rotation schedule and variety of Clear Space’s summer season, also including "The Sound of Music" and the world premiere of "Radio Gaga - A GLEEful Music Event."
