Delaware District 3 softball teams on verge of Daily Double

Big League D3 beats Asia-Pacific 1-0
August 9, 2013

Delaware Big League softball manager Guy Wilkins was on the Georgetown team that won the Senior League World Series in 1981. We’ve all see the sign when driving through town.

Wilkins is back managing a talented Big League softball team composed mostly of players from the Henlopen Conference.

Delaware District 3 gets an automatic invitation by being the host team, but they’re not supposed to rise up and threaten to win the World Series against Latin America, Asia, Europe and Africa along with regional tournament winners from throughout the United States.

Delaware is undefeated atop Pool B heading into a game versus Canada Aug. 8. Delaware will likely play the Pool A runner-up in a semifinal at 8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 9.

Latin America and Southwest are fighting it out in Pool A.

A win in the semifinal sends a team to the World Series championship game at 3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 10. The game will be televised on one of the ESPN channels.

Delaware has beaten USA East (Milford) 9-3, USA Central 7-3 and Asia Pacific 1-0.

Delaware stayed undefeated by winning a back-and-forth contest against USA Central when an RBI triple by Tiara Duffy tied the game at 2. Then winning pitcher Rachel Hudson knocked in a go-ahead run to make the score 3-2. Kimberly Gallo scored Delaware’s fourth run on a passed ball. A fourth-inning 3-run shot over the center field fence that sent fans scattering brought home a 7-3 victory.

Mykala Steele went the distance Wednesday, Aug. 8, shutting out Manila South 1-0. Rachel Hudson knocked home the game's only run in the second inning.

Delaware’s District 3 Senior League team has been dominant, winning 4-1 over USA East, 10-1 over USA West and 9-1 over Asia Pacific.

District 3 is undefeated atop Pool A at 3-0 while USA Central is 3-0 atop Pool B. District 3 will play a semifinal game at 5:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 9 and if victorious will play for the World Series Championship at 11 a.m.,  Saturday, Aug.10.
