All Saints' Thrift Shop donates $18,750 to charities in June

August 18, 2013

Twenty-five volunteers from All Saints’ Thrift Shop gave almost $19,000 to charities during the month of June, one of their biggest months since the thrift shop opened nearly 20 years ago in 1994.

Established to distribute net profits, each volunteer is given an opportunity to name his or her favorite charity. If that individual’s name is selected during the Drawing of the Month, a donation is made to the organization of his or her choice. Sponsored by All Saints’ Episcopal Parish, volunteers come from many walks of life, including both retired and working people, affiliated with many churches across the community.

Approximately 65 volunteers work each month, according to Richard Faull, shop manager. Each volunteer who is selected may donate $750 from the profits. “June was a very busy month, so we were able to give away $18,750,” said Faull.

Among the more than 30 charities identified for giving are Meals on Wheels, Children and Families First, Coastal Concerts, Home of the Brave, Rehoboth Preschool, Jusst Sooup, Delaware Hospice, Rehoboth Beach Fire Department and many others.

Dependent upon the community for resale items, the shop has recently expanded its showrooms in order to provide more display space. Furniture, clothing, glassware, jewelry, books, linens, and even bicycles and cars can be found at the church-sponsored store.

“We’re very pleased with the support we get from everyone in the area,” said Faull, “both from our donors and from our shoppers.”

The shop offers home pickup of furniture and accepts major donations by appointment. It will also deliver furniture purchases for a small fee. It is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. The shop is at Rehoboth Beach Plaza, 20673 Coastal Highway. The phone number is 302-226-3123.
