Coastal Basketball Academy teaches skills and offers fun at Cape gym

August 13, 2013

The Coastal Basketball Academy hit the hardwood of the Cape Henlopen High School gymnasium Aug. 5-9. More than 50 campers attended with three coaches and 10 counselors. Campers ranged from kindergarten through eighth grade.

The campers and staff did warm-ups together each morning and then split into two groups for individual ball handling, dribbling skills, fundamental station work, transition drills and camp competitions.

The two age groups were K-4 and 5-8. The K-4 group ended the day at noon while the 5-8 group stayed for lunch and then worked on more complicated transition drills and competed in 3-on-3 game play and 5-on-5 matchups.

"The campers worked really hard and were an excellent group," said Cape coach Steve Re. "They improved each day and had a lot of fun at the same time."

If anyone missed out and is looking for an opportunity to get involved, the Cape Crusaders' basketball workouts will start up again this fall, shortly after the school year begins. Look for information in upcoming editions of the Cape Gazette.
