Lacey Lafferty to sign copies of 'My Beating Heart' Aug. 20

Book tells story of daughter's battle with life-threatening heart problem
August 16, 2013

Laurel resident and author Lacey Lafferty is having a book signing for her book, "The Life of Lacey Lynn, My Beating Heart (Vol 1.)," at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 20, at Browseabout Books in Rehoboth Beach.

Illustrated by Brian Allen, the colorful children’s book is dedicated to the author's daughter, Lacey Lynn, who was born with a hole in the heart, a life-threatening problem which doctors thought she might outgrow. However, years later, mother and daughter found that Lacey Lynn needed to undergo open heart surgery, which was eventually performed at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The book tells Lacey's story and serves to inspire children and parents going through medical issues to persevere through life’s obstacles.

Lafferty was born in Lewes and now resides in Laurel with her 8-year-old daughter Lacey Lynn Lafferty. She retired from the Delaware State Police in 2008, where she spent her entire career on patrol, receiving the Delaware State Police Excellence Performance Award presented by Delaware Gov. Ruth Ann Minner in 2007.  Previous books include "Delaware Horse Racing" published by Arcadia Publishing and "Messages from a Mother" published by Authorhouse Publishing.

Allen is a freelance illustrator working out of his studio in Bellefonte, Pa. He draws inspiration and support from his wife Lesha and his two children and apprentices, Michael and Isabella. To view more of Allen’s works, visit http://www.flylanddesigns.com/.
