Dewey Beach Buddy Run won by Radley Reist in 17:13

August 16, 2013

The Dewey Beach Lions Club teamed up with Best Buddies Delaware and the Boardwalk Buddy Walk to produce the Second Annual Best Buddies Delaware 5K Run/Walk and pancake breakfast. The event continues to grow, and the energy and enthusiasm were apparent from the 5K run/walk to the after party, which featured the Starboard's Bloody Mary Bar, to the pancake breakfast at the Lions Clubhouse. The race proceeds benefit Best Buddies Delaware and the Boardwalk Buddy Walk, which is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 5.

The mission of Best Buddies is to establish a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. With a commitment to reach the hundreds of Delawareans with intellectual disabilities who are in need of socialization opportunities, BBDE continues to work toward securing funds necessary to expand programs.

The overall male winner was Radley Reist from Bear in a time of 17:13, running a 5:33 per mile pace. He was vacationing with his family, and many runners recognize him from the Delaware Running Company store on Main Street in Newark. The overall female winner was Abigail Kaplan, 15, from Potomac, Md., who ran the 5K in 21:47, a 7:02 per mile pace. The women's leader board also included Jordan Brossi, 22:39; Claire Kaplan, 23:26; Holly Monaco, 23:33; and Sasha Hanway, 24:16.

The men's leader board also included masters runner Bill Nolan in a time of 18:01; Brady Byrnes from Alexandria, Va., 18:41; Joey Andrisani from Wilmington, who runs all the Ten Sisters races, in 18:56; and Brett Doyle, also from Wilmington, who finished in 20:15.
