Kings Creek announces Club Tennis Championship winners

August 17, 2013

Andy Rowe and Kristy Adkins were the winners of the annual Men’s and Ladies Tennis Club Championships at Kings Creek Country Club.

The round-robin matches were very competitive, with several players still in the running for the finals right up until the last matches.

In the Men’s Championship rounds, Rowe narrowly edged out Steve Adkins to earn the right to take on Jason Gaughan in the finals. Gaughan won the first set 6-4, but Rowe came back to take the second set 6-2, forcing a 10-point tiebreaker to decide the match. Gaughan had an early 7-3 lead in the tiebreaker, but Rowe came from behind to win it 10-8 and earn the 2013 Men’s Club Championship title.

In the Ladies Championship finals, Kristy Adkins was leading the field, while Betsi Micholas and Susan Gaughan battled for the other finals slot. After each won a set, Micholas narrowly edged Gaughan in a 10-7 tiebreaker. In the Sunday morning ladies finals, Adkins won the first set 6-0. In the second set, Micholas gained momentum, but Adkins held on to win the set 6-3 and earn the 2013 Women’s Club Championship title.

Kings Creek Director of Tennis Marty Godwin said, “The tournament was very exciting to watch. The camaraderie and sportsmanship made this a special event, and everyone is looking forward to next year's tournament.”

Kings Creek Clubhouse Manager Gary Wheeler said, “Quality tennis play is making a real comeback at Kings Creek. We appreciate the many members who enthusiastically participated in this year’s First Annual Tennis Club Championship Weekend, and we offer our congratulations to our winners.”
