George F. Snyder, formed The Concord Group

George F. Snyder, 87, of Lewes, formerly of Chadds Ford, Pa., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, with his loving wife and daughters by his side. He was born Jan. 30, 1926, in Glenn Mills, Pa., son of the late G. Francis and Ernestine (Estevez) Snyder.

Mr. Snyder honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy before going on to form his own construction company called The Concord Group, based out of Wilmington. He grew his company to become one of the most highly respected companies in the building and real estate development industry, working on several high level projects including: Concord Plaza, Barley Mill Plaza and the Brandywine River Museum to name a few. Away from work, Mr. Snyder had a passion for anything outdoors, from hunting, fishing and gardening to supporting numerous wildlife conservation organizations. Mr. Snyder was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and dear friend who leaves to all who knew him life's most important lessons in honesty, integrity and generosity.

Mr. Snyder is sadly missed by his loving and devoted wife of 29 years, Cheryl B. (Conley) Snyder; his five daughters: Betsy Snyder of Seattle, Wash., Debbie McMillan and her husband Dave of Wilmington, Jennifer Mellinger and her husband Robb of Lancaster, Pa., Jill Stevens of Wilmington, and Sharon Sculthorpe and her husband Peter of Rockland; his sister, Carmela Quiq and her husband Joe of Milton; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren whom he adored; and his beloved cocker spaniel puppy, Button.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 19, at 11 a.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Snyder’s name to his following favorite charities: Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675; The Chesapeake Bay Foundation, 6 Herndon Ave., Annapolis, MD 21403; Delaware SPCA Sussex Chapter, 22918 DuPont Hwy., Georgetown, DE 19947.
