George H. Gordy Jr., Conrail retiree

George H. Gordy Jr. died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, at his home. Born in Laurel on Dec. 31, 1930, George was the son of the late G. Howard Gordy Sr. and Estella Hastings Gordy. His wife, Patricia Anne "Patty" Gordy died Jan. 6, 2012. George retired from Conrail Railroad with 40 years of service. Most of his working years were in Delaware, from Cape Charles to Wilmington. He had also been a train dispatcher in Baltimore, Md., for 18 years. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Charity Lodge 27 of Laurel, and he was a life member of the Denton Volunteer Fire Company. In addition, he was proud to be a member of the Laurel High School Class of '48.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is predeceased by one brother, John Gordy and his wife Lois; and four sisters, Mary Ann Marine and her husband Charles, Dorothy Figgs and her husband Wilson, Blanche Walter and her husband Lynn, and Virginia Gordy. George is survived by a sister, Jane Lamb and her husband Bill of Lewes; and numerous nieces and nephews. His extended family brought him much joy and he thought of them as his own: Thomas and Michelle Conneely of Denton and their children, grandchildren and loved ones.

Funeral services will be 4 p.m., Monday, Aug. 19, at the Moore Funeral Home P.A., 12 S. Second St., Denton, Md., where friends may call one hour before the service. The interment will be private. Friends may send memorial donations to the Denton Volunteer Fire Co., 400 S. Fifth Ave., Denton, MD 21629.
