'The Sound of Music' draws praise from summer audiences

August 22, 2013

Clear Space Theatre Company’s production of  "The Sound of Music" has drawn packed houses all summer long. One of the most-beloved musicals of all time, the show has music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, and book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse.

It was first a Broadway musical featuring Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel, then an Academy Award-winning film starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. Clear Space Theatre Company has included this worldwide classic in Rehoboth Beach as one of its summer repertory performances.

Directed by Clear Space Artistic Director Doug Yetter, the story of Maria is told through countless musical theater standards, such as “Edelweiss,” “My Favorite Things,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain," “Do-Ré-Mi" and the title song. Company performers and local favorites Erin Williams as Maria, Steve Givens as the Captain and Carolyn Robinson as the Mother Abbess head the talented cast.

In addition to "The Sound of Music," Clear Space is presenting "La Cage Aux Folles," the musical version of the comedy “The Birdcage” starring Christopher Peterson; the world premiere of "Radio Gaga: A GLEE-ful Music Event" and "The Best of Christopher Peterson’s EYECONS."

The full schedule of shows can be found at www.ClearSpaceTheatre.org. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling 302-227-2270. Group rates are available.
