Greene Turtle 5K and 10K benefit Cancer Support Community

August 22, 2013

The Greene Turtle 5K and 10K at the Villages of Five Points on a rainy Aug. 18 attracted 271 runners with 200 electing the shorter 5K distance. Many runners were cancer survivors who just dropped in to celebrate what condition their remission was in.

The Races 2 Run event benefited the Cancer Support Community Delaware, which offers support to all people with all types of cancer as well as their families and friends. A brochure states that no one should have to face cancer alone.

And yes, there were people running just because that’s what they do, those who haven’t had to personally deal with having someone close to them who had joined the battle.

The 10K race was won by Mike Sewell in 38:15, followed by Brandt Chi in 39:01, Jon Tower in 39:22, Chris Stanley in 41:42 and Michael O’Rourke in 41:47.

The women’s 10K was won by Shana Keeler in 45:48, chased by Adrienne Yourek in 48:04, Annmarie Logullo in 49:45, Michele Boris in 50:58 and Linda Schwartz-Chi in 52.00.

The 5K winner was Jon Gannon in 20:0, followed by Erin Anderson, first woman and second overall, in 21:44.
