Epworth UMC to present Two Views Sept. 8 to Oct. 27 in Scotts Gallery

The Visual Arts Program at Epworth Church announces a new exhibit of original art. The public is invited to an opening reception from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 8, in Scotts Gallery at Epworth United Methodist Church, 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach. Members displaying artwork include Anne Buck, watercolor artist, and Jerry Strum, pastel artist.

Buck is primarily a watercolorist focusing on portraits, landscapes and florals. Her secondary media of choice is pastel. All of the work represents an impressionistic style. Buck graduated with a bachelor’s degree in ornamental horticulture and landscape design and a master’s degree in biology education. She is a retired teacher from Cape Henlopen School District and has followed her passion for painting as a second career.

She has studied watercolor with such nationally recognized artists as Mary Whyte, Charles Reid and Mel Stabin. The Rehoboth Art League and Milton Art Guild exhibit her work along with periodic exhibits at The Kitchen at Paynter's Mill, Savannah Inn and Ocean Atlantic Real Estate Office in Bethany. Strum is primarily a pastel artist focusing on landscapes in an impressionistic style. He graduated with a degree in education and a minor in art and a graduate degree in special education. After a career as a teacher, principal and supervisor in Maryland and Delaware he returned to his passion for art. He has found the Rehoboth area a source of inspiration.

Strum studied art at the University of Delaware, Towson University, Clarion University and Hood College. He has taken classes with international artist Vo Dinh, watercolorist Ken Hosmer and local pastel artist Nick Serratore. His work has been exhibited at Rehoboth Art League, Milton Art League, a Beebe Medical Center benefit and the YMCA.
