Delmarva Christian High School celebrates 10 years with Aug. 15 opening

In spite of the fog, they came. By 8 a.m. Aug. 15 the halls of Delmarva Christian High School were abuzz with friends reconnecting with friends, teachers greeting students, and the whole DCHS family excited at the prospect of what the new school year has to offer.

Excitement escalated when everyone noticed the many changes that took place to the school over the summer months. Walls were painted new shades of gray and purple, shiny new tile floors were installed, and a new Student Union with a fireplace, pub chairs, coffee tables and bookcases had been added.

In addition to a new school year in a new school building, Aug. 21 marked a milestone for Delmarva Christian High School. It was 10 years ago when DCHS first opened its doors to 60 high school students and the principal at the time, Scott Kemerling, said, “This is a historical day for the lower Eastern Shore. Our students are stepping out in faith to embark on an exciting educational journey. They’ll be taught from a Christian worldview that will be well rounded and of the highest quality.”

The journey continues today under the leadership of Principal Mike Vonhof for the 177 students currently enrolled at DCHS and for more than 265 graduates.

“We take our mission seriously,” said Vonhof as he gathered students and staff for a time of praise and worship. “And, it is our privilege to partner with families as we embark on that mission which is to proclaim the gospel by preparing students spiritually, academically, and physically to know and to do God’s will in their lives.”

Delmarva Christian High School is a nondenominational Christian school serving students in grades nine through 12 who reside in Sussex and Kent counties in Delaware, and Wicomico, Dorchester and Worcester counties in Maryland.

The school’s overall objective is to educate youth with the knowledge of how to apply biblical truths and principles to their daily lives. The school remains in Georgetown but has relocated to a new building site at 21777 Sussex Pines Road.
