Library group announces voting for 2013 Blue Hen Book Awards
The Delaware Library Association announces voting is open for the 2013 Blue Hen Book Awards, and children are invited to place their votes. The Blue Hen Book Award is a children’s choice award sponsored by the Youth Services Division of the Delaware Library Association. Ballots are available at all Delaware public libraries, and completed ballots will be collected by children’s librarians through Oct. 31. Awards are presented to authors at the annual Delaware Library Association Conference in May.
Three Blue Hen Book Awards are given each year, one in each of three age categories. Five books are nominated in each category, and each of the nominated books has been published within the last three years.
In the Younger Readers category are "Extra Yarn" by Mac Barnett, "One Cool Friend" by Toni Buzzeo, "Oh, No!" by Candace Fleming, "This Is Not My Hat" by J. Klassen and "Z Is For Moose" by Kelly Bingham. Children must be under 14 to vote in the Younger Reader category, and they must read all five nominated books.
The Middle Readers category includes "Ghost Knight" by Cornelia Funke, "Max Quick: The Pocket and the Pendant" by Mark Jeffrey, "Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes: A Story" by Jonathan Auxier, "Wonder" by R.J. Palacio and "Wonderstruck" by Brian Selznick. Children must be under 14 to vote in the Middle Reader category, and they must read at least three of the five nominated books.
In the Teen Readers category are "Butter" by Erin Jade Lange, "Daughter of Smoke & Bone" by Taylor Laini, "The Fault in Our Stars" by John Green, "The Miseducation of Cameron Post" by Emily M. Danforth and "The Scorpio Races" by Maggie Stiefvater.
Children must be over 12 to vote in the Teen Reader category, and they must read at least three of the five nominated books. More information about the nominated titles is available as part of the Blue Hen Book Award LibGuide at guides.lib.de.us/bluehen.
Children may only vote one time per category per year.
