Beachcombers Corvette Club's annual car show a huge success

Proceeds benefit Friends of the Fallen

Sunshine and blue skies Aug. 17 helped make the 14th annual car show presented by Beachcombers Corvette Club of Southern Delaware a huge success. Supporters of the event, held at First State Chevrolet in Georgetown, arrived from throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

The competition included more than 120 entrants and benefited Friends of the Fallen, which provides care, service and support to the families of the fallen attending the dignified transfer of their loved ones at Dover Air Force Base.

This year's winners include the following: In the 1950 and older category, Louis Wright earned first place with a 1930 Ford; second place went to Mo and Barbara Mudeyk for a 1950 Willy's Jeepster.For 1951-1980: first place, Buddy Webb, 1957 Dodge; first tie, Ed Young ,1956 Chevy convertible; second, Jim Griffin, 1967 Chevy Nova SS. In 1981-present: first place, George Husfelt, 1987 Buick Grand National; second, Tina Challies, 2007 Mustang GT.

In the Street Rods category, Lenny Shaffer took first place with a 1934 Ford 3-window coupe; second place, JoAnn and David Cherry, 1923 Ford T Bucket. In Trucks, Lew Franklin's 1952 Chevy Cheyenne took first; Brandon Lewis's 1972 Chevy took second.

Corvettes came in four categories. Winner of the 1953-67 group was Richard Webb, 1960 Vette. Jim Hartshorn's 1966 Vette was second. In the 1968-82 category, Terri Rogers took first with a 1979 Vette; Ed and Susan Stone took second with a 1971 Vette. In the 1984-96 category, first place went to Jim Jewell, 1993 Vet coupe. In the 1997-present group, Tom Debaugh took first with a 2007 Vette and Larry Salathe took second with a 1998 Vette.

Best in Show went to Don Wagner's 1966 Corvette. Best Club Participation went to the First State Corvette Club.
