Cancer: The Challenge to Healing and Wellness Sept. 25

The Cancer Support Community will offer Cancer: The Challenge to Healing and Wellness at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 25. Many challenges of an unprecedented nature confront anyone given a diagnosis of cancer. These challenges strike at every level of a patient’s sense of security, continuity and well-being.

In this presentation Dr. Daniel Cowell will discuss the emotional, psychological, cultural, spiritual and physical dimensions of care, and describe their contribution to the healing process and to the restoration of a person’s sense of wholeness and identity.

Cowell is a retired physician and professor of psychiatry from the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va. He is a distinguished life fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and is board certified in his field. He has lectured widely in the areas of depression, bereavement, anxiety disorders, aging and life transitions.
