September 18, 2013

The exhibit to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the national Red Hat Society will be hosted by the Lewes Public Library Wednesday, Nov. 13. The original red hat and purple boa have been on a rotation display at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C.

The Queens Council of the Crowned Jewels Queens Chapter will exhibit proclamations and copies of proclamations received from the state of Delaware, state of New Jersey, Lewes and Philadelphia to name just a few, in addition to material regarding the society's legacy. Additional memorabilia also will be represented.

The free presentation and reception in the library's second floor, which is elevator accessible, will be open to the public from noon to 1 p.m. There will be a 50/50 and other giveaways. Applications for membership in the Red Hat Society will also be available.

A luncheon open to the public will follow the reception at 1:30 p.m. at Irish Eyes in Lewes. Hamburger, chicken salad and Murphy Melt sandwiches and trimmings will be offered at the special Red Hat luncheon cost of $20 including nonalcoholic beverage, entrée, gratuity and dessert. Pre-reserved luncheon tickets are required and may be picked up at the library the day of the exhibit.

All reservations for the luncheon must be made no later than Oct. 12 by contacting Red Hat Carolyn White at 302-945-4563 or whitenewt@verizon.net. There will be no refunds.
