Art comes alive at Rehoboth Art League's Beaux Arts Ball Sept. 21

September 13, 2013

The Rehoboth Art League’s Beaux Arts Ball is nearly here, and preparations are under way with attention to every creative aspect of the Sept. 21 event.  Living Art, in which models are the art, will be one exciting exhibition that evening. Lili Kohr, owner of Tiger Lili in Rehoboth Beach, describes Living Art as “over the top, out of the box and expect the unexpected.”

Kohr and her daughters, Gaby Kohr and Annalysa Longworth, are collaborating to design the amazing array of motifs. Gaby Kohr attends Indian River High School and won an art scholarship through the Young at Art Exhibition at the Rehoboth Art League earlier this year.  Longworth, a makeup artist in San Francisco, is the headliner for Living Art. Lili explained that a recent trip to Africa with Annalysa will surely influence some of the exotic characters they are designing. She mentioned a few: lions, Ganesh, a 14-foot jellyfish, Mad Hatters and a peacock.  A team from Made Ya Look Salon, assisted by additional Robert Thomas salon stylists, will create the hair styles for each model.

There will be activities and surprises from the moment guests arrive at Beacon Middle School to park their cars. They will enjoy a string band and the red carpet treatment before being taken to the ball at the Belle Mead Farm by Jolly Trolley. This is a unique venue, open only for this occasion. Signature cocktails will be served by Dogfish Head while Nage, a(MUSE.) and Blue Moon will serve a gourmet sit-down dinner followed by dancing to the 10-piece band Remedy.

The $200 ticket will support the Rehoboth Art League’s education and outreach activities. Through these programs, the art league provides free year-round art instruction in more than eight locations to underserved kids. The league also works with other community agencies and local schools to offer free art experiences to youth and adults, including its Young at Art program. Other groups served by the programs are seniors and those with mental disabilities.

Tickets are available at rehobothartleague.org or at the Rehoboth Art League, 12 Dodds Lane, Henlopen Acres or by calling 302-227-8408. For up-to-date information on the Beaux Arts Ball, follow on Facebook at Beaux Arts Ball - Rehoboth Art League.

Underwriters for the event are FROGGY 99.9, KISS 95.9, MAGIC 98.9, Q 105, Delmarva Public Radio and Dogfish Head.

The Rehoboth Art League is funded, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
