T.S. Smith & Sons hosts free u-pick and family picnic for UD alumni Sept. 22

All University of Delaware alumni residing in Kent and Sussex counties are invited to attend a free u-pick and family picnic from noon to 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 22, at T.S. Smith & Sons Farms & Orchard, Orchards End Road, Bridgeville. Those who plan to attend should register for planning purposes

The business was founded in 1907, and T.S. Smith & Sons’ two sons, Charlie and Tom, are Blue Hens. Patrons can enjoy an a authentic Delaware farm experience, complete with a personalized wagon tour of the orchard by host Charlie. They may pick apples right off the tree for a special Blue Hens rate of only $1 per pound.

Participants should bring a bag lunch and enjoy it under the pavilion while seeing a demonstration by a master food educator volunteer and a youth craft led by a local 4-H Club. They’ll enjoy complimentary apple cider, famous apple doughnuts and ginger snap cookies.

The u-pick area is on Orchards End Road (dirt road directly opposite Goodwill), off northbound Route 13 in Bridgeville, two miles north of the Route 13/404 intersection. Look for the blue and gold balloons Phone number is 302-337-8271.
