Center for the Inland Bays to say thanks Sept. 28 to all who help the bays
The Center for the Inland Bays Annual Thanks-for-Giving BBQ will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the James Farm Ecological Preserve on Cedar Neck Road in Ocean View.
Held at the farm at the start of autumn glory weather, the BBQ is always a great day for Friends of the Bays, volunteers and neighbors to come together for a fun fall day down at the farm. The 2013 Friends of the Bays recipients will be honored at the event.
Catered barbecue pork and chicken from Bethany Blues and oysters on the half-shell in celebration of the CIB Oyster Gardening Program will be on the menu with festive fall beverages and delicious desserts, including cupcake creations by Annabella’s.
The Flatland Drive bluegrass band will set the atmosphere with its lively picking, and hay wagon tours of the trails will be given to those who would like to see the James Farm. Pumpkin decorating for the children will also be available. Banks Wines and Spirits is proud to sponsor the Thanks for Giving BBQ and would like to thank all of the people in the community who do so much to help the Inland Bays.

The James Farm is a 150-acre preserve with two miles of hiking trails, three observation decks, an amphitheater, a boardwalk dune crossing, open meadows, a mature upland forest, and a sandy beach on the shores of Indian River Bay.
The James Farm Ecological Preserve was given to Sussex County in the 1990s by Mary Lighthipe, who stipulated that it be used for environmental and educational purposes. It is managed by the Center for the Inland Bays. About a thousand students from the Indian River School District come to the farm each year for a day of outdoor learning. Visitors are welcome to visit the farm every day, from sun up to sun down.
The Center for the Inland Bays is a nonprofit organization working in four areas of mission; science and research, habitat protection and restoration, public policy, and education and outreach - to protect and restore the Delaware Inland Bays and its watershed.
