Steppin' Up To The Plate

All good things must end (at least until next May)

September 26, 2013

Parting is such sweet sorrow. Sweet, because I am now facing one less weekly deadline. Sorrow because I have had a great time keeping you properly informed in the stuff-your-face department. So many of you visited RehobothFoodie.com and sent me your suggestions, comments and experiences after reading my hungry ramblings. Even more joined our EatingRehoboth.com walking tours where I had the pleasure of meeting you in person. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Who has more fun that I do!?

Though you will not have the Beach Paper to guide you through the winter, there are still lots of events to enjoy. The 24th annual Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival is tuning up for October 17 through the 20th. Restaurants will have all sorts of specials, and many, including Saketumi and Delaware Distilling Company, will have live entertainment every night of the festival. So after enjoying the headliners at Cape Henlopen High School, Epworth U.M. Church, and the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center, you can sip, bite and listen to even more jazz. Find out more at www.RehobothJazz.com.

Sea Witch Festival will haunt The Avenue and environs from Oct. 25th to the 27th.  It’s a treasured event here at the beach, and pretty much everyone gets into the act – including your pets! From the downtown costume parade on Saturday, to the live music at the bandstand, to the newly extended dress-your-pet parade on Sunday, you (and Fido) will be busy every minute. Check with your favorite restaurant for weekend specials. See the schedule at www.Beach-Fun.com. Click “Sea Witch.”

The last hurrah until Christmas and New Year’s is the Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival from Nov. 6th through the 10th. Though most of the action is at The Movies at Midway, restaurants get into the act with après-theater specials and late-night happy hours. Perhaps your favorite eatery will be part of the show. Click “Festival” at www.RehobothFilm.com.

I’m out of ink, but there’s a lot more happening this off-season. Keep up with The Latest Chews at www.RehobothFoodie.com, or click “What’s Happening Right Now” from the Rehoboth In My Pocket app on your smartphone. Happy winter!
