Epworth to host Blessing of the Animals Oct. 5

October 2, 2013

Epworth United Methodist Church will hold its annual Blessing of the Animals service at 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5, celebrating the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi and calling to mind mankind’s connection with all living creatures and God’s great blessings on all Earth’s beings.

The service will be conducted at the bayside entrance to the church.

Everyone in the beach community and surrounding areas is welcome to bring their animals, big and small, from hamsters to horses, pets, farm animals, service and work animals. Furry, feathered or finned; scaled or shelled, every animal imaginable on God’s Earth is welcome at this blessing ceremony.

There will also be a special time of remembrance for faithful friends that are no longer with us. Participants are encouraged to bring a photo or other memorabilia that reminds them of their special friend.

Associate Pastor the Rev. Dr. Pat. Loughlin reflected on the special bond that humans have with animals, and the impact that pets have on our emotional and physical well-being. She went on to say that “caring for the animals on this Earth is an important stewardship responsibility given by God to humans.”

Epworth is located at 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach. For additional information go to or email or contact the church office at 302-227-7743.
