October 27, 2013

This 12-foot Bevin’s Skiff built by volunteers of The Lewes Historical Society’s Wooden Boat Program left the society’s complex for a trip to its new home in Fredericksburg, Va. Joe Root won the craft in the 2013 project boat raffle. Joe’s daughter, 4-year-old Rebecca Root, is excited to have a new family vessel.

Standing are (l-r) Wooden Boat Chairperson Peter Issel, LHS Director of Education Amanda Jean Lynn, Wooden Boat Chairperson Larry Bost, LHS Facilities Supervisor and Wooden Boat volunteer John McGovern. Seated are new wooden boat owners Joe Root and his daughter Rebecca Root of Fredericksburg.

Each year, members of the Lewes Historical Society Wooden Boat Crew make a vessel to raffle off to support on-going education and restoration programs involving the society’s historic boat collections.
