Cape volleyball moves to 10-2 with win over Indians

Defense proves they can dig it
October 17, 2013

The Cape Henlopen volleyball squad visited the Indian River court Oct.15 and returned with a 25-19, 25-17and 25-13 victory over the Indians.

It was all about the defense as Kristin Perkinson and Mallory McDonald each had 15 digs in Cape's 10th victory of the season. Kira Vitella and Izzie Marsico each had eight digs.

Megan Hart slammed 10 kills in the Vikings' win while Alison Palmer assisted on 15 kills for the Lady Vikings spikers.

"Megan [Hart] was a monster in the sets," said head coach Carrie Evick. "It was her best game of the season. She put down some key kills and blocked everything that was near her."

"Megan played really great," said senior Mallory McDonald. "She was everywhere and just played phenomenally."

Evick was quick to point out the teamwork shown by the Lady Vikings.

"The team picked up everything that Indian River put over," she said. "The whole team communicated well, played with good energy, and we are keeping the level of play where it needs to be right now."

"Our front line had a great deal of confidence during the sets," said McDonald. "If we give up a few points, we don't let it affect us for the whole game. We just come together and play harder."

The Vikings will play host to Caesar Rodney Tuesday, Oct. 22.
