The good, the bad, and the ugly!

Remember when your mom taught you that you shouldn't say anything if you didn't have anything nice to say? Well, sorry Mom, but I'm going to have to let that one go for this week or I would have nothing to submit for my "Thoughts from the Sidelines." Hopefully I will have "nicer" news next week.

I didn't think it could get much more frustrating to watch the Eagles play what is supposed to be a professional football game, but I was wrong. They basically gave the New York Giants a guaranteed advantage by playing a clearly still injured Michael Vick. This was totally unfair to third string backup quarterback Matt Barkley, giving him the impossible job of cleaning up the mess the coaches made playing Vick in that game! They should have stood strong and given Barkley the chance to play the entire game and not lose Vick for another stretch of recuperation time. Now what?!

This was also very unfortunate because of how well the Eagles' defense actually played, limiting the Giants to five field goals. It would have been even better if Giants' kicker Josh Brown wasn't five for five. To add insult to the injury, the Eagles' offense didn't even contribute to their one touchdown when the Giants' special teams gave it to the Eagles on a bad snap into the end zone.

The only good thing about last week is the Eagles' standing in the division, thanks to Dallas's losing to Detroit on a last-second touchdown. Miraculously, the Eagles are only one game out of first place! Doesn't say much for the rest of the division, but that works for me for now. Nick Foles will probably be the quarterback this weekend after recovering from his concussion. You can only hope he really is well enough to come back and the coaching staff doesn't put him at risk by pulling another stunt like they did with Vick.

Even though I don't have a favorite team in the World Series this year, it's been a fun one to watch... except for the ridiculous beards!! The Sox and the Cardinals have made it interesting with some of the odd endings to the games. Game 3 ended with a Cardinals runner scoring the winning run on an interference call at third base with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. In Game 4, Boston won with a pick-off play. This had never happened in the 109-year history of the World Series!  But the Sox wrapped it up routinely with a 6-1 win over the Cardinals in Game 6.
