Brasil Guitar Duo to bring South American Flair to Coastal Concerts Nov. 16

November 10, 2013

For lovers of the classical guitar, the next program in Coastal Concerts’ current series should be a must-see event. The Brasil Guitar Duo will entertain the audience at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 16, with its impeccable technique and vibrant playing style. The appearance of this young pair of guitar virtuosos, who blend their instruments to breathtaking effect, promises to be one of the more intriguing recitals of the season.

Meeting in São Paulo as teenage guitar students, João Luiz and Douglas Lora have been partners for more than 15 years, with Luiz arranging both classical and Brazilian music and Lora contributing his own compositions. Their soulful chemistry has led to engagements around the world and a growing chorus of praise for their CDs and live performances. “The maturity of musicianship and technical virtuosity … is simply outstanding,” said Classical Guitar magazine.

Among the classical composers on the first half of the concert will be Ástor Piazzolla, Jean-Philippe Rameau, Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, and Heitor Villa-Lobos, the latter represented by his “Prelude from Bachianas Brasileiras No. 4.” The remainder of the program will be completely given over to colorful pieces infused with the melodies, dance rhythms and infectious spirit of Brazil.

The concert will take place at wheelchair-accessible Bethel United Methodist Church Hall, Fourth and Market streets, Lewes. Tickets are $30. Ages 10-18, as well as one adult per youth, are admitted free with advance reservations by calling toll-free 888-212-6458.

For online tickets and more information, visit coastalconcerts.org. Tickets may also be purchased at the door on the afternoon of the performance (all forms of payment accepted) or in advance (cash only) at the Lewes Chamber of Commerce and at Lewes Gourmet/Puzzles on Front Street.

In addition to its Saturday matinee performance, the Brasil Guitar Duo will give free in-school concerts during its visit. Through these outreach events, Coastal Concerts gives young audiences a chance to hear and interact with professional musicians of the highest caliber.

Coastal Concerts is a nonprofit organization promoting classical music appreciation in central Delmarva. This program is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
