Russell E. Shockley, strong-minded Democrat

Russell Edward Shockley, 80, of Georgetown passed away Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at his home.

Mr. Shockley was born in Berlin, Md., Jan. 11, 1933, son of the late James Lester and Hattie (Bunting) Shockley. He was raised in the Frankford and Roxana areas and was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Army.

Russell retired from the DuPont Nylon Plant in Seaford. He loved watching NASCAR and going to the dirt track stock car races. He was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Russell will always be remembered as a strong-minded Democrat who loved to debate politics and the rights and wrongs of the government.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Lester Shockley. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Elinor (VanSant) Shockley; two sons, Kevin Shockley and his wife Donna of Georgetown, and Keith Redman and his wife Donna of Wilmington; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at noon, Wednesday, Nov. 13, at the Frankford Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher St., Frankford, where friends and family may call after 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Henlopen Memorial Park in Milton.
