November 27, 2013

Cape Henlopen School District fifth-grade teacher Kristin Gray, left, and math specialist Nancy Thornburg have been invited to present at the 2014 National Council for Teachers of Mathematics Annual Conference in New Orleans, La., this spring. The pair will present “Number Talks: Developing Fluency Through Conceptual Understanding and Mathematical Practices.”

“Number Talks are a powerful tool fundamental in developing students' computational fluencies with conceptual understanding,” said Thornburg.

Gray said, “Number Talks are a part of my everyday classroom routine because they offer me the opportunity to meet each child where they are mathematically and support the mathematical practices in my classroom. We are excited to share our experiences with math educators and leaders from around the world.”
