Tom and Ardeth Savage celebrate 65 years of marriage

November 26, 2013

Tom and Ardeth Savage of Lewes celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary Nov. 13. A party was held in their honor Nov. 16. Tom and Ardeth were married in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Cathedral in Wilmington. Tom likes to share the story of the assessment by the priest who officiated at their wedding. "He said it wouldn't last since we were 18 and 20 years old. Ardie wasn't a Catholic, so he saw nothing but problems. Well, we buried him years ago, and we're still together!" They retired to Lewes in 1998.

Tom retired from two careers, the first as Deputy Chief of the City of Wilmington Firefighters, and the second as owner of Tom Savage Associates, a construction company. Ardeth retired from teaching; she was a Montessori teacher for over 30 years, the owner of The Children's House in Wilmington.

Tom and Ardeth have three children: Diane Thompson Ludema of Park City, Utah; Linda Savage-Young of Wilmington; and Thomas R. Savage (deceased). They also have nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
