Faith Youth Group to hold first Christmas Concert Dec. 14

The Faith Youth Group from Faith United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach  invites everyone to its first Christmas Concert, featuring the Sussex Community Gospel Mass Choir and The Messengers, at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14,  at St. John Second Baptist Church, 26602 Mount Joy Road, Millsboro. The concert is free.

In June 2011 the youth of Faith United Methodist Church formed a group dedicated to the vision, purpose and mission to serve others. Faith Youth Group lives by the motto, “We are here to serve, not to be served.”

The officers are President Tamia Bonville, Vice President Jordan Taylor, Treasurer Marnae Duffy, Secretary Shayne Brittingham, President of Fundraising Tykia Duffy, Vice President of Fundraising Jah’Kai Duffy, Prayer Warrior Shayla Brittingham and Youth Advisors Daeveon Deshields, David Hicks III and Aaliyah Reese. All are members of their church Sunday school, Young Kingdom Builders Choir, and school honor rolls. The adult advisors are Edward Reese Jr., Claudia D. Reese, Shelldean Harmon, Tamela Brittingham and media specialist Diaz J. Bonville.

During the past year, Faith Youth Group organized, coordinated and participated in several church and community ministries such as youth revival; bagged and delivered lunches and soup to homebound and the needy; prepared Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners; participated in the Lewes Christmas parade; baked and bagged cookies for Sussex Correctional Institute; delivered Christmas fruit baskets to senior citizens; visited and sang songs to residents in nursing homes; adopted a needy family; attended mission trips and a youth rally; held car washes, bake sales, barbecues, yard sales and breakfast fundraisers; and collected 138 nonperishable items for Operation Christmas Child to be shipped to needy children throughout the world.

The Faith Youth Group is the recipient of several awards such as the 2008 Governor's Youth Volunteer Service Award and 2011 Dover District Board of Lay Ministries Award. In 2012 the group was inducted into The Order of St. Barnabas Peninsula - Conference Board of Lay Ministries.
