Beekeeping 101 scheduled for Jan. 18 in Dover

Beekeeping 101, a one-day intensive course for anyone interested in the art and science of beekeeping, is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Delaware State University Research & Outreach Center, 884 Smyrna-Leipsic Road, Smyrna. The event is sponsored by the Delaware Beekeepers Association and Delaware State University’s Small Farms Program.

Presenters include Katy Evans, graduate assistant to Dr. Debbie Delaney, University of Delaware; Ken Outten, president, Delaware Beekeepers Association; Robert Bauer, experienced beekeeper and association treasurer; Bill Lietzinger, New Castle County vice president; and Robert Mitchell, state apiarist, Delaware Department of Agriculture

Registration fee is $50 per person and includes lunch, a one-year membership in the Delaware Beekeepers Association, a $20 value, and the popular beginning beekeeping book “Beekeeping for Dummies” by Howland Blackiston, list price $15.22. Married couples and life partners are welcome to both attend and pay for only one person. Only one book will be given out per family or couple who attend.
