Film society to present 'The Sapphires' Dec. 27

December 15, 2013

For December’s Monthly Screening, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society will present “The Sapphires” at 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 27, in the upstairs screening room at the Movies at Midway in Rehoboth Beach.

Based on a true story, this inspiring and lighthearted comedy is about four Aboriginal Australian women discovered by an ambitious talent scout, Dave (Chris O’Dowd), who aims to transform them into a polished singing group, The Sapphires. Dave, an unlikely Irish soul brother, molds them into a Motown-inspired group, much like The Supremes. These girls have a whole lot of passion and something special in the way they perform together.

When they learn their first gig is performing for the American troops on the front lines of Vietnam, the girls are quick to realize that, for better or worse, this will change their lives forever. A great combination of music, humor, love, war, friendship, and social issues.

Admission for Monthly Screenings is $4 for Rehoboth Beach Film Society members (current membership card must be presented), and $6 for nonmembers. Tickets will be sold at the door on a first-come, first-served basis.
