Zumba for the Philippines raises $870 for UNICEF disaster relief

December 17, 2013

Delaware Tech students Michelle Lane of Bridgeville, left, and Ayla Orteza of Lewes organized the Zumba for the Philippines Zumbathon event held Dec. 7 at the Owens Campus. The event raised $870 for Philippines disaster relief efforts as the country recovers from Typhoon Haiyan.

All of the money was donated to the United Nations Children’s Fund. Six Sussex County Zumba instructors donated their time, and several sponsors provided water and food for the event, to allow for 100 percent of the money to be donated to UNICEF. The event was sponsored by Subway in Milford, Redner’s in Milford, Royal Farms in Georgetown, and Giant in Rehoboth Beach.

Donations can still be made online at crowdrise.com/zumbaforthephilippines.
