Local NARFE chapter donates gifts to Sussex County nursing facilities

December 19, 2013

The Coastal Sussex Chapter 1690 of National Active and Retired Federal Employees used the occasion of its annual Holiday Luncheon to donate Christmas gifts to residents of three local senior nursing facilities.

The facilities are Atlantic Shores Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Millsboro, Harbor Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Lewes and Harrison Senior Living in Georgetown.

NARFE Sussex Chapter President Larry Trombello said, “One of the highlights of our holiday lunch is to provide our members with the opportunity to spread holiday cheer to nursing home and Alzheimer’s patients in our community.”

The chapter gathered more than 70 gifts, all in easily accessible gift bags, including items such as clothing, large-print books, and puzzles and toiletries. After the meeting, they were taken by chapter members to the respective senior facilities.

Trombello said this is the 23rd year the local NARFE chapter has sponsored this program. “The three assisted living facilities tell us these gifts are greatly appreciated by their residents, some of whom do not have nearby family members, and our chapter is pleased to be able to make this small contribution to the holiday season,” he said.
