Georgetown-Millsboro Rotary Club launches Flags for Heroes campaign

December 27, 2013

Flags for Heroes, launched by the Georgetown-Millsboro Rotary Club, will honor past and present heroes who put their lives on the line every day, including the military, first responders, firefighters and others who have made a difference in people’s lives in the Cape Region.

Rotarians from Georgetown and Millsboro started selling flag sponsorships in late December. First purchasers were Georgetown Mayor Mike Wyatt and Millsboro Mayor Bob Bryan.

An estimated 300 flag sponsorships will be sold at $50 each. The three- by five-inch flags will be flown on Memorial Day weekend 2014 at three locations: The Circle in Georgetown, Delaware Technical Community College campus northwest of Georgetown and Millsboro VFW.

The names of the honored heroes will be published, along with the names of their sponsors, in local newspapers, and displayed on the Georgetown-Millsboro Rotary Club website in May.

Former Secretary of State Harriett Smith Windsor is heading the club’s flag committee.
