Mary E. Phillips, VIP guide

Mary E. Phillips, 60, of Lewes, passed away peacefully at her residence Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013. She was born Nov. 29, 1953, in Wilmington, daughter of the late Charles Lester Rust and Flora Victoria Brown Rust, who resides in Clayton.

For many years, Mary worked as a hostess and VIP guide at Delaware Park. She was an avid gardener and scrabble player. She especially enjoyed Punkin Chunkin and was a former member of the Old Glory Team, which were World Champions three times. She later went on to help formulate a women's team and their moto was Chunkin for the Cure for breast cancer awareness.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband James B. Phillips II; her daughter Michelle Rust of Millsboro; four brothers, Charles Rust of Wilmington, Jeff Rust of North East, Md.; Roy Rust of Smyrna, and Michael Rust of Clayton; and two sisters, Joanne Rust of Wilmington, and Maxine Rust of Quarryville, Pa.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call beginning at 5:30 p.m. Interment will be at St. Peter's Cemetery, Pilottown Road, Lewes.
