Holly Branch to hold art auction to support scholarship fund March 1

Winners of annual Artistic Excellence competition to be honored April 13

Holly Branch, National League of American Pen Women Inc., will hold its second annual Artistic Excellence in Young People Scholarship Silent and Live Art Auction Saturday, March 1, at the Dover Elks Lodge 1903, 200 Saulsbury Road, Dover. Admission is free. There will be live music and hot food available for purchase provided by the Dover Elks. Hundreds of items, services and gift cards have been donated by businesses of Kent and Sussex counties.

Preview time begins at 6:30 p.m. Bidding will be closed at 8:30. Cash or checks only will be accepted for payment.

The purpose of the auction is to raise $5,000 to promote and encourage young people in art, music, dance and writing with cash scholarships. One hundred percent of the money raised will go the the Artistic Excellence Young People's Scholarship Fund.

Winning entrants of the Artistic Excellence Competition will receive the scholarship awards at a special presentation ceremony from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, April 13, at Dover Public Library, 35 E. Loockerman St. Delaware public officials will also attend to recognize the young artists and writers.

Donations to the fund can be sent to Holly Branch NLAPW, PO Box 423, Camden, DE 19934. Donations are 100 percent tax-deductible. Auction items, services and money are accepted throughout the year.

The call for entry forms for this year's competition can be picked up at the Dover and Milford public libraries. Students in grades 8 to 12 and college level may apply.
