The heavily favored Caesar Rodney girls' basketball team led Cape 31-29 after three quarters in a Jan. 10 game in Lewes. But before a simmering upset could turn to steam, the Vikings went cold and faded under the heat of a 22-5 fourth quarter to lose 53-34.
Cape dropped to 2-6 on the season; the Vikings will play at 4-4 Polytech Tuesday, Jan. 14.
The Riders were paced by Alexis Prillaman with 25 points and Alissa Haith with 12.
Cape was led in scoring by Elizabeth Sutton with 11 points.
