The Kitchen at Paynter’s Mill announces a new exhibit of original art. The public is invited to an opening reception from 1 to 3 p.m, Saturday, Feb. 1, at the restaurant just off Cave Neck Road near Milton. Artists displaying works are Anne Buck, watercolor artist, and Jerry Strum, pastel artist. The paintings share subjects, but each artist interprets the subject uniquely.

Buck is primarily a watercolorist focusing on portraits, landscapes, and florals. Her secondary media of choice is pastel. All of the work reflects an impressionistic style. Buck has a bachelor’s degree in ornamental horticulture and landscape design and a master’s degree in biology education.

She is a retired teacher from Cape Henlopen School District and has followed her passion for painting as a second career. She has studied watercolor with such nationally recognized artists as Mary Whyte, Charles Reid and Mel Stabin. The Rehoboth Art League and Milton Art Guild exhibit her work along with periodic exhibits at The Kitchen, Savannah Inn and Ocean Atlantic Real Estate office in Bethany. Visit

Strum is primarily a pastel artist focusing on landscapes in an impressionistic style.  He has a bachelor's degree in education with a minor in art and a master's degree in special education. After a career as a teacher, principal and supervisor in Maryland and Delaware, he returned to his passion for art. He has found the Rehoboth area a source of inspiration.  Strum studied art at the University of Delaware, Towson University, Clarion University and Hood College. He has taken classes with international artist Vo Dinh, watercolorist Ken Hosmer and local pastel artist Nick Serratore. His work has been exhibited at Rehoboth Art League, Milton Art League, Beebe Hospital Benefit, The Kitchen and the YMCA.

The show will be on display through March 14. The Kitchen is open from noon to 9 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday, with a 4 to 6 p.m. happy hour.

The Kitchen at Paynter's Mill is on Cave Neck Road just west of Route 1.
