Delaware Coalition launches 2014 MyFreeTaxes Campaign

Online filing free for households with income below $58,000
January 22, 2014

The Delaware Coalition announces its renewed partnership with the national MyFreeTaxes campaign to enable eligible Delawareans to file their taxes for free - free of hidden fees, free of ads and free of confusion.

The Delaware Coalition, led by $tand By Me, United Way of Delaware and Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County, is joined by more than 30 state and local organizations, businesses and schools, to offer a completely free web-based tax preparation program called MyFreeTaxesDE.

Taxpayers who go to www.MyFreeTaxesDE.com can file their state and federal taxes using the easy, secure software. MyFreeTaxesDE is free to taxpayers with household income at or below $58,000. All forms are available for households with multiple state returns. If taxpayers need help with their return, MyFreeTaxesDE offers free support through a toll-free hotline or live web chat, which they can reach by calling Delaware 2-1-1 or 1-855-MY-TX-HELP. The software and help are available throughout the 2014 tax season. The deadline for federal income tax filing is April 15.

$tand By Me, a Delaware Coalition partner, is also inviting taxpayers to meet with a free financial coach to help with other money-related topics. Any Delawarean can visit www.standbymede.org to make an appointment to meet with a  coach to set their own financial goals.

The 2013 MyFreeTaxesDE campaign was a huge success, with Delaware attracting a higher percentage of eligible filers than any other state.  The Delaware Coalition hopes to double the number of tax filers in 2014. MyFreeTaxesDE is sponsored by Walmart Foundation, in partnership with Goodwill Industries International, National Disability Institute and United Way Worldwide.

Tax filers who choose to file in person as opposed to online are eligible if individuals and families earn $52,000 or less.
