Cancer Coalition ready for Southern Lights of Life gala Feb. 22

At Dover Downs Hotel & Casino
January 28, 2014

The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition announces the 10th Annual Southern Lights of Life gala, which will take place from 6 to 10 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 22, at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino.

Southern Lights of Life is southern Delaware’s premier breast cancer fundraiser with all proceeds benefiting DBCC’s programs and services in Kent and Sussex counties. Through fundraising efforts, DBCC serves more than 5,000 men and women a year in the Delaware community.

Southern Lights of Life involves an evening of living and giving, featuring 12 local breast cancer survivors in an upbeat fashion show by local shops, live entertainment, gourmet dinner and cocktails, and live and silent auctions. This year, live entertainment, Simply the Best Featuring Suzette Dorsey: a Tina Turner Tribute, will be provided by Harrington Raceway and Casino. The Tom Pizzi Trio will also perform.

Individual reservations are $150 with various levels of sponsorship beginning at $500. The 2014 Southern Lights of Life co-chairs are Gerri Coble and Michele Domenick, MD. This year’s honorary chair is Patti Key, DBCC board first vice president and CEO of Harrington Raceway. The Delaware State News is one of the featured event sponsors, and additional sponsors will soon be announced.

The generous support of the community enabled DBCC to raise more than $168,000 at the 2013 Southern Lights of Life event.  The funds were used to expand programs in Kent and Sussex counties which increase breast cancer awareness, promote the importance of early detection, provide access to mammograms and bilingual health navigators, and deliver support and resources to women and men who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

This event has sold out in previous years. To make reservations, and for information about sponsorships, advertising, and item donations, go to www.debreastcancer.org/SLOL.
