Veterans posts do a lot for the community

January 18, 2014

We the members of the men's auxiliary of VFW Post 7447 in Rehoboth Beach would like to thank everyone who donated to, volunteered at, or just patronized any veterans clubs. If it were not for all of you, we could not do the things that we do. We are nonprofit and all we do is to go to the betterment of our community, our children, our veterans, and of course our home post. We the men's auxiliary of Post 7447 are looking for members to join and stand with us as we go into this coming years work to make monies to give back and donate where it is needed most. However we are not the only veterans club looking for members, there are several in the area that would love to build their membership.

Just a word about the veterans clubs - some people think they are just bars where people go to drink cheap drinks and get cheap food. However, the clubs are all about what we are intended for and here is just an example of the work that we do. This 2013 year, the men's auxiliary of Post 7447 has accomplished the following with the help and support we had this past year.

To our home post we donated a total of $3,000 for a pool table, past presidents recognition, sound system, post members in need, lawn mower, ladies auxiliary stand down, ladies auxiliary national president, DJ and food, Christmas party, Christmas gifts for employees and Christmas decorations. For our veterans, we donated $600 to Home of the Brave for men, Home of the Brave for women, Post 28 Warrior Weekend, the Fisher House, as well as our volunteer time for veteran fishing trips, outings, etc. For our community, we donated a total of $2,602 for the Boys & Girls Club, Cancer Support Community, Cape Henlopen JROTC, Meals on Wheels, Moose Fundraiser, Salvation Army, St. Jude Children's Hospital and Toys for Tots. Our grand total donated back as well as our volunteer time came to $7,002 with just the 50 members that we currently have.

If you are a veteran, son or daughter, grandson or granddaughter of a veteran and would like to be a part of what the veterans clubs truly do, then stop in at Post 7447 for a membership application and hop aboard the giving train as well as bringing your help and ideas for more places for us to assist. If you are not close to Post 7447, check into the closest veterans post near you as we all need help and volunteers Don't have a veteran in your family? Some posts have social or canteen memberships which still allow you to join and help us give back where it's needed most.
