Alice E. Maitlen, active in community
Alice E. Maitlen (nee McLellen), 87, of Millville, passed away Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.
Alice was born in Indianapolis, Ind., Oct. 15, 1926, daughter of the late Harold T. and A. Louise McLellen.
Alice was very active in many activities in her church, community and schools while living in Middleport, N.Y. She later moved to New Jersey and obtained a certificate for addictions counseling and became a director of treatment for women at Mrs. Wilson’s in Morristown, N.J.
Alice retired to Millville, and continued counseling and volunteering until 2003. She loved to paint, knit for many groups, read and enjoyed helping others. Alice was also a cancer survivor.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Edith Selleck; and a brother, Ted McLellen all of Lafayette, Ind. She is survived by four children, Linda (Ron) Mufford of Boulder, Colo., Susan (Bob) Berger of Lockport, N.Y., Brian (Becky) Maitlen of Erie, Colo. and Jeffrey (Connie) Maitlen of Concord, Calif.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving partner for 31 years, John O’Meara of Millville.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
