Milton Historical Society announces winter events
The Milton Historical Society has scheduled a month's worth of events from late January through February.
The Delmarva Roots Film Series kicks off activities Friday, Jan. 31, at the Milton Fire Hall, 116 Front St. in Milton, with the screening of "Shored Up," a critically acclaimed documentary about communities located along the East Coast that asks tough questions about coastline development and the environment, especially after Hurricane Sandy. The film is presented with cosponsor Surfrider Foundation of Delaware.
Doors open at 6:15 p.m. The film starts at 7 p.m. A Q&A with the film's director, Ben Kalina, will follow.
Admission is $5 for adults, $3 children 12 and under. Light refreshments, beverages and Dogfish Head beer will be served.

Salon Milton will host its Fund Razor From noon to 5 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 9, 517 Chestnut St. Clients can enjoy any of the following salon services for a suggested donation of $25: haircuts by stylists John Potocki (owner), Roi Bernard and Robert McGowan; hand massages and Aveda makeup. Call Salon Milton at 302-684-1880 to book an appointment. Stop by Salon Milton to also participate in a bake sale, silent auction and refreshments. All the proceeds raised by the event go toward the educational efforts of the Milton Historical Society.
Beer & Benevolence Night for the MHS comes from 5 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 19 at Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats, 320 Rehoboth Ave. in Rehoboth Beach. Live music starts at 6 p.m. The public is invited to support the Milton Historical Society and help it win an additional $1,000 as part of a grant challenge. MHS is able to win the extra $1,000 if it has the most number of people attend its charity night.
The Underground Railroad Coalition will hold its annual Research Jam at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 27, at the Milton Historical Society, 210 Union St. in Milton. Admission is free. Speakers will talk for 10 minutes about their current or future projects. Light refreshments will be served. RSVPs are recommended but not required.
